DataFlex is an object-oriented 4GL programming language and database management system originally developed by The Database Managers, Inc. A .vw file stores the definition of a DataFlex data entry panel, including the layout and controls used to enter or display data.
The file is part of a DataFlex application's source files and works with other components of that application, such as its database definitions and program source. It is not a general-purpose database file containing the application's records.
This format is associated with the Linux and Unix versions of DataFlex.
Open the .vw file in the DataFlex development environment for Linux or Unix that belongs to the application. DataFlex can interpret the panel definition in the context of the rest of the application.
A text editor can be used to inspect the file if it is stored as source text, but it will not display the data entry panel as a running DataFlex form.
To reuse a DataFlex data entry panel file, open it in a compatible DataFlex development environment and migrate or rebuild the panel for the target application.
Any data displayed by the panel must be exported separately from the application's database; converting the .vw file alone does not convert that data.

SmartWare uses VW files to preserve custom views. The file contains the information SmartWare needs to recreate a view configured by the user, rather than serving as a standalone document.
This is a SmartWare-specific format for Microsoft Windows. Its contents are intended to be used within SmartWare and may not be meaningful in other software.
Open the file in SmartWare on Microsoft Windows to load the saved custom view.
Other programs are unlikely to interpret a SmartWare VW file correctly.
Because the file stores a SmartWare-specific view, conversion to a common document format is generally not applicable.
Open the file in SmartWare and use the application's own export or save options, if available, to preserve the information in another form.
