Usually a structured text file, like CSV for example, is the preferred input choice as it's easier to parse data into cells. This can be done with Excel or any other tool that allows saving to MS Excel files (typically .xls or .xlsx) and you can even find online converters advertising this as possible, but these usually create blank Excel file with the text inside single cell or lines.
