The $efs file extension is mainly related to EFS files encrypted in Microsoft Office Word 2003.
In order to decrypt these files you need a proper certificate from the original creator of the document. EFS is short for encrypted file system.

There is no way how to convert the encrypted *.$efs files. However, after decoding the *.$efs files, original files can be converted.
