An .aop file is a JAR-based archive used by JBoss Application Server for JBoss AOP deployments.

JBoss Application Server, developed by JBoss and later associated with Red Hat, uses AOP archives to package aspect-oriented application components. An .aop file can contain user-defined aspects and the bindings that determine where those aspects apply.
An AOP archive can be bundled inside another JBoss deployment archive. This allows an application to include aspect services as part of its deployment rather than treating the archive as a general-purpose compressed file.
The format is mainly associated with older JBoss Application Server and JBoss AOP deployments. JBoss Application Server evolved into the WildFly project, which is available for Microsoft Windows, but support for this archive type depends on the server version and its JBoss AOP components.
Deploy the .aop file to a compatible JBoss Application Server or WildFly installation that supports JBoss AOP archives. It may also be included in the appropriate application deployment archive.
Because an AOP archive is JAR-based, a ZIP or JAR archive utility can usually list or extract its contents. Such utilities do not interpret the aspects or bindings, however.
An .aop file is already a JAR-based archive, so it does not usually need conversion to another format.
It can perhaps be repacked as a standard JAR file with a JAR or ZIP archive utility, but this may prevent JBoss Application Server or WildFly from recognizing it as an AOP deployment.
