What is cv file?

File type category:
Archive and compressed file

Date updated: October 11, 2026

Record marked as obsolete and not updated for a long time.

The .cv file extension was used by Corel Versions, a legacy utility from Corel associated with earlier versions of CorelDRAW. The files contain archived or versioned CorelDRAW data managed by that software.

Corel Versions and its .cv archive format are obsolete and are no longer part of current CorelDRAW releases. The format was intended for older Windows-based Corel software and may not be recognised by modern archive or graphics applications.

Note: CV is a common abbreviation for curriculum vitae. These files are usually documents made in standard programs, such as MS Word (.doc, docxdocx).

How to open cv file?

Open a .cv file with the original Corel Versions software, if it is available. It may have been included with an earlier Windows release of CorelDRAW.

Current CorelDRAW versions and general archive utilities may not support this format. Work on a copy of the file if access through the original software is possible.

How to convert cv file?

Unfortunately, we do not know about any possible conversions for .cv files at this time.

If the archive can be opened in the original Corel Versions software, restore or export its contents there and save them in a format supported by a current application.

CodeView was a standalone debugger created by David Norris at Microsoft in 1985 as part of Microsoft's development toolset. Its .cv files provided information screens for the debugger.

CodeView originally shipped with Microsoft C 4.0 and later versions. It was also included with Visual Basic for MS-DOS, Microsoft BASIC Professional Development System, and other Microsoft language products.

CodeView was one of the first full-screen-oriented debuggers for MS-DOS, rather than a line-oriented debugger. The format is obsolete.

These files were intended for the original CodeView environment. They may be accessible only when used with a compatible historical CodeView installation on MS-DOS or an appropriate emulator.

How to convert cv file?

There is no practical general-purpose converter for this obsolete CodeView format.
