The .file0locked extension is associated with the Evil ransomware. It encrypts users' files and renames them by adding this suffix, making the original file contents inaccessible.
Evil ransomware attempts to extort affected users by email in exchange for the decryption key. The suffix identifies an affected file, but it does not provide a way to restore or decrypt the data.
There is no ordinary application that can open a .file0locked file while it remains encrypted. Changing the file extension will not decrypt it.
Access requires a valid decryption key and a compatible decryption tool. If no reliable decryptor is available, the file may only be recoverable from an unaffected backup.
A .file0locked file cannot be meaningfully converted while it is encrypted. Decryption must take place before the original file can be opened or exported to another format.
If a valid decryption method is unavailable, restoring an unaffected copy from backup is the practical alternative; ordinary file-conversion software cannot recover the encrypted contents.
