Clean was developed by the Software Technology Research Group at Radboud University Nijmegen and was first released in 1987. It is a general-purpose, purely functional computer programming language.
An ICL file normally contains the implementation of a Clean module. Clean projects commonly use an ICL file together with a DCL definition file, which declares the module's interface.
The Clean compiler and development tools support ICL files on Microsoft Windows.
An ICL file is plain-text source code. Open it in a text editor to read or edit the code, or open it in the Clean development environment on Microsoft Windows.
To use the file as a program component, open the Clean project that contains it and compile the project with the Clean compiler.
There is no usual standalone conversion for a Clean source file. The Clean compiler can compile an ICL file as part of a Clean project, but compilation produces a program or other build output rather than a converted source file.
To use the code in another programming language, it must generally be translated manually.
