These mdi files are only supported by the Microsoft Office XP, 2003 and 2007 (NOT supported in Office 2010 and higher) of Microsoft Office Document Imaging (also known as MODI).
MODI enables users to edit and annotate documents scanned by Microsoft Office Document Scanning. It supports TIFF format as its own proprietary formate called MDI.
