The mkv3d file extension is sometimes used for a new Matroska 3D video format, but in default Matroska specifications is used file extension MK3D.
The MK3D is a format for 3D video and now is supported by hardware media centers such as Popcorn Hour C-200, but in the near future will be certainly supported by standard software media players.
The MKV3D format is essentially a MKV file container that has a special field set defining what type of stereoscopic 3D video material is contained in the file. The stereo 3D support for Matroska video files can be realized with either two separate video tracks – one for each eye, or with a single video track containing both the data for the left and right eye in multiple possible formats.
Media players with Matroska support can typically playback this format.
Some multimedia converters with Matroska support can convert this video format.
