Files with oxps file extension are documents created in Windows 8/10/11 using the latest version of the Open XML Paper Specification. You can easily view *.oxps files using the pre-installed Windows XPS viewer, but only in the latest versions of Windows. For older versions of Windows, you will need to convert oxps to xps.

File extension oxps is mainly related to the latest variant of the XML Paper Specification, which was introduced in Windows 8 and used ever since, even in current Windows 10 and 11.
The new Open XML Paper Specification (or OpenXPS) is similar to the previous XPS format; however, it is not the same file format and therefore uses another file ending.
OXPS and XPS documents are an alternative to PDF format for printing fixed layout documents.
Microsoft and Ecma International originally developed the older XPS file format for an electronic representation of digital documents that can be easily created, shared, and printed.
When creating .xps files in Windows 8 and Windows 10, the system saves the files in OXPS format by default. You can still change the output to older XPS thought.
The problem many users experience is that they cannot open .oxps files in Windows 7 or any programs that only support older standard XPS format. This means you must first convert oxps to xps, for example, with Microsoft's XpsConverter utility.

With the default XPS Reader program, you can view oxps files in Windows 8/10/11.
If you have an older version of Windows that doesn't support *.oxps format, you must convert it to an older .xps file format or PDF.
To ensure compatibility beyond Windows 8 and Windows 10/11, it is necessary to convert OXPS format files to the standard XPS format. Microsoft provides the XpsConverter tool for this purpose.
