PART01

First numbered segment of a split disk image, followed by part02, part03 and subsequent parts

File type: Disk image (ISO) binary file

A .part01 file is usually the first segment of a disk image divided into multiple sequential files for storage or transfer. It normally belongs to a complete set containing files such as .part02, .part03 and later parts.

This extension is not a universal disk-image standard, so the file generally cannot be opened or mounted independently. The complete image must first be reassembled with the original splitting tool or a compatible file-joining utility. Applications such as 7-Zip, HJSplit and platform-specific command-line tools may be useful, depending on how the image was created.

What is part01 file?

Disk image (ISO) binary file

Files with the .part01 suffix contain a consecutive portion of a larger disk-image file. The numbering identifies the segment's position rather than defining a particular filesystem or image format. A matching set may use names such as image.part01, image.part02 and image.part03, although naming conventions vary between utilities.

Splitting an image can make a large file easier to copy to removable media, upload, or store on filesystems with size limits. The parts are normally binary fragments and should not be edited, renamed independently, or opened with a text editor. Missing, incorrectly ordered, or damaged segments can prevent successful reconstruction.

After all parts have been joined, the resulting file may be a ISO, DMG, raw disk image, or another image format. The reconstructed image can then be opened or mounted with software appropriate to that format, such as Disk Utility or hdiutil on macOS, OSFMount on Windows, or mount and losetup on Linux.

The suffix itself does not identify a single vendor or application. Some programs use similar numbered extensions for split archives rather than disk images, so the original download documentation and the names of the other segments should be checked before selecting recovery software.

How to open part01 file?

First place the .part01 file and every following segment, including .part02, .part03 and any later files, in the same folder. Confirm that the filenames are complete and sequential, then use the original splitting or imaging application to reassemble them. 7-Zip or HJSplit may work when their naming scheme matches the files.

After reconstruction, open the resulting disk image with a suitable program: OSFMount or another image utility on Windows, Disk Utility or hdiutil on macOS, and mount, losetup, or a graphical disk-image utility on Linux. Do not try to mount the individual segment directly.

How to convert part01 file?

A .part01 segment is normally not converted by itself. Reassemble all numbered parts in their original order first, preferably with the software that created them or with a binary concatenation tool. On Windows, a matching split-image utility or a command such as copy /b may be appropriate; on macOS and Linux, utilities such as cat can join raw segments when the format and order are known.

Once the complete image exists, it can be converted with a format-specific desktop tool, such as qemu-img, dmg2img, or an ISO utility. Online converters are generally unsuitable for multi-part disk images because of upload limits, privacy concerns, and the need to preserve exact binary data; use one only when it explicitly supports the reconstructed source format.
