The .usx file extension is associated with the Unreal Engine, developed by Epic Games. A USX file is a package of StaticMesh objects, also known as hardware brushes, used to build arenas and other game levels.
Static mesh packages are part of the resources loaded by Unreal Engine games. They can be created and managed with UnrealEd, the level editor distributed with games based on Unreal technology.
UnrealEd and the Unreal Development Kit run on Microsoft Windows. Support for USX files is version- and game-specific, and the format is mainly associated with older Unreal Engine projects.
Open a .usx file with a compatible version of UnrealEd on Microsoft Windows. The editor's Static Mesh browser can load the package and display the meshes it contains.
The Unreal Development Kit may open the file when it is compatible with the game or Unreal Engine version that created it. An editor from a different engine generation may not be able to load the package correctly.
Some Unreal tools may be able to convert or export the static meshes in a USX package, especially to another mesh format.
A compatible version of UnrealEd or the Unreal Development Kit may export individual static meshes, but the export may not preserve the complete package or its game-specific references.
