Record marked as obsolete and not updated for a long time.
Microsoft Expression Media was a multimedia asset management program from Microsoft. It was available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.
An xmc file stores an Expression Media media catalog, including the catalog's organization and information about the media assets it references. The actual images, videos, audio files, or other media remain separate from the catalog.
Expression Media and the XMC format are obsolete and are no longer in common use.
Open an xmc file with the original Microsoft Expression Media application on a compatible Windows or Mac OS X system. The program must also be able to access the media files referenced by the catalog for the catalog to be fully useful.
Because Expression Media is obsolete, it may not run on current operating systems.
An XMC catalog is not a media file and cannot be meaningfully converted into an image, video, audio file, or other media format. Open it in Expression Media if possible and use the program's export features to preserve the catalog information or produce copies of the referenced media.
Preserve the original catalog together with the media files it references.
