A .hp8 file is a text document created by NewWave Write, an old word-processing program for personal computers.
File type category:
Text file
Date updated: September 28, 2026
The HP8 file extension is associated with HP NetWave Write, an old word-processing software for PC from Hewlett-Packard. HP8 files contain text written using the HP Roman8 character set.
NewWave Write and the HP8 format are legacy PC technology and are no longer in common use.
Open an HP8 file with the original HP NetWave Write software in a compatible legacy PC environment. Modern word processors may not recognize this format directly.
If NewWave Write can open the file, save or export its contents as plain text or another available document format.
When copying the text into a modern application, check the character conversion because the source uses the HP Roman8 character set.
