MDI file extension - Microsoft Office Document Imaging file format

What is mdi file? How to open mdi files?

File type specification:

Graphics file type icon Graphics file type

mdi file icon: mdi filetype icon

The mdi file extension is used for a high resolution, tag-based graphics format that was used in some previous versions of Microsoft Office.

These mdi files are only supported by the Microsoft Office XP, 2003 and 2007 (NOT supported in Office 2010 and higher) of Microsoft Office Document Imaging (also known as MODI).

MODI enables users to edit and annotate documents scanned by Microsoft Office Document Scanning. It supports TIFF format as its own proprietary formate called MDI.

If you are going to share files with people who are using Office Document Imaging 2002, or another document imaging program, save your files in TIFF format for compatibility.

This mdi file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.
