The rl1 file extension was also in the past used for a RL-1 database format. This was a DOS-based full relational data base file format for a data base called RL-1 Data Base. They were originally (early 1980's) called ABW Corporation based in Ann Arbor Michigan.
The final issue under ABW's name was Version 1.32 in 1984.
The company was bought out by Dun & Bradstreet and the product was renamed (DunsPlus 2A) re-marketed and supported by D & B Computing Services from Wilton CT in 1986.
Under D & B the last release I received was 1.53 in 1985.
In 1986 D & B changed their support policies to a per diem rate of $600/day for all support, and I lost contact with them at that time.
The product was very similar in function to the IBM System /38 database and the file modules were accessible from Cobol, Basic and I think PL-1 programs on the PC.
Use compatible tools to work with *.rl1 files.
Probably can be exported to other formats.
