File extension rofl is nowadays best known for its use as the default game replay format in League of Legends multiplayer online battle arena video game (LoL). ROFL, in this context, is an abbreviation for Replay OF LoL.
Unfortunately, there is currently no easy and convenient way to share the replays (rofl files) directly from the game client. Players can only playback of their replays and save them in WEBM format (playable in VLC).
The most crucial aspect of rofl files is that they only work for one patching cycle, meaning replays saved in version 6.23 will not be playable in version 6.24.
Typically, recordings older than one month are rarely found on various LoL replay sites.
Only the last 20 replays are saved in the League of Legends client.
Note: It seems that this file type replaced all the previously used types (.lrf, for example) used by some 3rd party programs.
How to open rofl file?
You can replay these files only in League of Legends game.
When you download replays from various LoL sites, they often come in the form of a .bat file that launches League of Legends in Spectator Mode and loads a particular replay from the database.
How to convert rofl file?
It is doubtful that a converter for .rofl replay files exist, given that they work only for a particular version of LoL.
However, the latest versions of the game allow the recording of gameplay segments as WEBM files (stored in the HighLights folder), so you can play the replay using the Replay Mode and record the highlights.
You may use some screen recording tool to make a video of the whole game. Otherwise, there appears to be no way to share your games.
