Find a software converter able to convert excel files to sav files.
Everything points to the fact that it's possible to use open source GNU PSPP statistical software in order to convert Excel data files to SPSS data sets (.sav), which is pretty much what excel to sav conversion is.
It's much easier to first export your Excel files to CSV format. You can also find various websites that offer quick conversion of these file types. Some Excel files might not be valid so users first import them in Excel and save as .xls which can then be also imported in SPSS/PSPP.
