The a08 file extension is associated with ARJ. Its one part of a multi-volume compressed ARJ archive.
arj is the native format of ARJ archiver. ARJ is a file archiver that compresses files into a disk space saving archive. It is fast, reliable, and has a rich set of features which include Windows 9x, Millenium long filename support, file version management, data damage protection, ANSI escape sequence display handler, configurable command options, multiple volume archives (archives that span diskettes) and much more.
Some ARJ files can be parts of a multi-volume sequences. In ARJ you can split a huge archive to a few smaller files, which are called volumes.
ARJ archiver does use the following sequence:
In order to unpack the multi-volume ARJ archive, you need to place ALL of the split parts in the same directory and start extraction of the first volume (.arj). The program will automatically use all of the parts to extract the content of the archive.
The a08 (e.g. Avatar.a08 file) file is only one part of ARJ multi-volume archive. If you want to extract this file, you must have all parts of the ARJ multi-volume archive. Open the first part of ARJ (e.g Avatar.arj file) multi-volume archive in ARJ application and extract files from ARJ multi-volume archive.
It is not possible to convert only one part of ARJ multi-volume archive. Only complete ARJ archive can be converted in to another archive or compression format. The easiest way how to convert complete ARJ multi-volume archive is to decompress the ARJ archive with the use of ARJ or any other supported archiver and repack the content with another compression or archive application of your choice.

The A08 file suffix is associated with ALZip, an archive utility from ESTsoft. It is one part of a multi-volume compressed alz archive.
ALZip uses numbered volume files when an ALZ archive is divided into multiple parts. The complete set must remain together for the archive to be reconstructed.
ALZip is available for Microsoft Windows. The .a08 file is a volume of an ALZ archive rather than a standalone archive format, so it is normally handled as part of the complete set.
Place the .a08 file with the main ALZ file and all other volume files in the same folder. Open the main ALZ file with ALZip, then use its extraction command; ALZip will read the required volumes automatically.
Do not rename, remove, or open the .a08 volume separately. If ALZip reports that a volume is missing, obtain the complete archive set and check that all filenames are unchanged.
An individual .a08 volume cannot be meaningfully converted on its own. To convert the archive, first gather all volumes and extract their contents with ALZip.
The extracted files can then be added to a new archive in a format supported by the archive program being used.
