The DXT2 format is intended for compressed texture and surface data. It uses an explicit four-bit alpha channel and stores color data for use with premultiplied alpha.
DXT2 files are associated with software that supports S2TC or compatible DXT texture decoding. The format is specialized and is not normally used as a general-purpose image format.
Open a .dxt2 file with a graphics or game-development program that specifically supports S2TC DXT2 surfaces. General image viewers may not recognize the file or may not apply its premultiplied-alpha data correctly.
If the file belongs to a game or other application, use that application's asset or texture tool where available.
A .dxt2 file cannot usually be converted directly with a general image converter. A compatible S2TC or DXT texture tool must first decode the surface.
After decoding, the texture can generally be exported to a standard image format such as PNG or TIFF. The resulting image can then be converted or edited normally.
