The UMOD format is the native Unreal Engine content distribution and installation format used by Unreal Tournament. A UMOD installer is an uncompressed archive containing files, information about where to install them, and any required Unreal Engine INI file changes.
Related Unreal Tournament versions use the ut2mod and ut4mod extensions. UMOD, UT2MOD, and UT4MOD use the same format with different file extensions.
A UMOD package can contain Unreal Tournament animations (ukx), audio files (uax), static meshes (usx), cache files (ucl), Unreal application packages (u), and texture files (utx). It is installed into the game's directories rather than used as a game file during play.
The format belongs to the original Microsoft Windows release of Unreal Tournament and is now a legacy format. UMOD files can be opened or extracted with UMOD Extractor or installed through Unreal Tournament's installation utility.
On Microsoft Windows, installing Unreal Tournament normally associates the UMOD extension with the game. Double-click the UMOD file to install it if the association is available. If the association is missing, copy the file to the game's System folder, open a command prompt there, and run setup.exe install filename.umod.
To inspect or extract the package without installing it, open the UMOD file with UMOD Extractor. WOTgreal can also work with Unreal Tournament files.
A UMOD package is not normally converted to another format. Its contents can be extracted with UMOD Extractor, but extraction produces the individual Unreal Tournament files rather than a converted UMOD package.
