The dng file extension is reported to also have been used in older computer games from Id Software, such as Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, etc. Some sort of dungeon file - perhaps maps.
You probably cannot access these file manually, unless there exist some kind of modding tools that can be used for this purpose.
