The stn file extension is associated with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the civil flight simulator developed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows.
The extension is part of the broader Microsoft Flight Simulator series, which is available for Microsoft Windows and other platforms. An stn file stores game data used by the simulator and works with the other files in a Flight Simulator X installation.
The file is intended to be read by Microsoft Flight Simulator X and is not normally edited by users. It remains relevant when maintaining an existing Flight Simulator X installation.
Open the stn file by starting Microsoft Flight Simulator X on Microsoft Windows. The simulator reads the file from its expected installation or data folder; it does not normally need to be opened separately.
Do not move or edit the file if the game still needs it.
There is no standard conversion for an stn file. It is supporting data for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, not a user document or an interchange format.
To use the data, keep the file in the Flight Simulator X installation. Converting it to another file type is not normally applicable.

Ransomware encrypted file

Satan ransomware is malicious software that encrypts files to prevent access to their contents. It renames encrypted files by adding the .stn file extension.
The ransomware also displays a ransom note named HELP_DECRYPT_FILES.html. The .stn suffix identifies an affected file rather than a normal document format.
These files cannot normally be opened until they have been decrypted. There is currently no known decryptor for files encrypted by Satan ransomware, so renaming the file or opening it with another application will not restore its contents.
A .stn file cannot be meaningfully converted while it remains encrypted. After successful decryption, the recovered file can be opened or converted according to its original format.
