The crypt7 file extension was used in several previous versions of the popular WhatsApp Messenger in 2015. This file type replaced the previously used crypt, crypt5, crypt6 file types.
Much like the original files, crypt7 file also store encrypted and protected database of the chat history.
The crypt7 file is encrypted by personal key stored in:
/data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key file
By default, the file is called: msgstore.db.crypt7 and it is stored in phone SDcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder.
Several tools are should be capable of accessing and possible exporting of *.crypt7 files. Sometimes only devices with Root access are required.
Use WhatsApp Tri-Crypt (Omni-Crypt), Whatsapp Xtract or similar tools to convert *.crypt7 files to the original crypt format.
