We have found 2 software records in our database eligible for .vmdk to .vmx file format conversion.
Both .vmdk to .vmx files come from VMware Workstation, but it doesn't seem very feasible to directly convert vmdk to vmx. At best you can create configuration file for virtual disk and setup a new virtual machine, but that is not file conversion.
This conversion entry was verified by us and conversion was flagged as wrong or not possible.
Usually this happens when the conversion would try to convert different types of data between each other, such as audio to image, or it is not possible because incompatibility between programs, caused by closed file formats, very limited support etc.

VMDK
A vmdk file extension is used for default virtual disk format of VMware virtualization software. A vmdk file stores contents of virtual machine hard disk drive. There can be more vmdk files for each virtual machines, depending on the specified amount of virtual hard drive assigned to it. It also can store information about partitions virtual drive is able to access.
VMX
A vmx file extension is related to the VMware Workstation, Fusion and other software developed by VMware. A vmx file stores configuration of virtual machine created in the New Virtual Machine Wizard.
