Both .dwg and .idw files are used for CAD drawings, albeit from different Autodesk tools. Your best and perhaps also only viable choice how to create .idw files, would be to use Autodesk Inventor. We do not know about any 3rd party solutions for dwg to idw conversion right now, so if you struggle with such export, it would be probably best to contact Autodesk support or reach to one of the online communities.

DWG
Files with dwg extension are used for the original CAD format originally introduced in Autodesk AutoCAD. The latest version of DWG format is usuaually proprietary and can only be created in AutoCAD. Other CAD programs can usually import it but not create its proprietary form. Because of this, DWGs are often exported to DXF interchange format so that they can be seamlessly used in other CAD programs.
