We have found 11 software records in our database eligible for .dwg to .3ds file format conversion.
Your best option for handling DWG/3DS formats is to use software from Autodesk, namely 3ds Max previously also known as 3D Studio Max.
Unfortunately, direct export to 3DS format was removed in AutoCAD 2007, so this software is no longer an option for dwg to 3ds conversion. Autodesk suggests that users export their data to FBX format, which can then be used in all sorts of 3D modeling / CAD tools.
Also, some 3rd party solutions may support both .dwg and .3ds files and allow users to convert dwg to 3ds, but only certain versions of DWG format may be supported.
DWG
A dwg file extension is used for standard CAD file format, originally used by AutoCAD. A DWG is a proprietary format and can only be created in AutoCAD. Other CAD programs can usually import it but not create its proprietary form. Because of this, DWGs are often exported to DXF interchange format so that they can be seamlessly used in other CAD programs.
3DS
Files with 3ds file extension can be commonly found as 3D computer graphics created using 3D Studio Max software as well its successor product 3ds Max by Autodesk.
