XMS file extension - Microsoft eXtended Memory specification data
What is xms file? How to open xms files?
The xms file extension is related to Microsoft's Extended Memory.
Extended Memory Specification or XMS is the specification describing the use of IBM PC extended memory in real mode for storing data (but not for running executable code in it).
Memory is made available by extended memory manager (XMM) software such as HIMEM.SYS.
The XMM functions are accessible through interrupt 2Fh. XMS should not be confused with the somewhat similar EMS (expanded memory specification).
This xms file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.
This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.
