The EFS is abbreviation of Encrypted File System included in Microsoft Windows operating system from Windows 2000 as a part of NTFS (New Technology File System) that provides file system level encryption of data.
By default the EFS is disabled in Windows, but encryption can be enabled by users on a per-file, per-directory, or per-drive basis.
