Microsoft Access is relational database management system released by Microsoft in 1992. Access combines its own Jet Database Engine and graphical user interface. It is distributed as a part of Microsoft Office Professional edition and higher. Also is sold as a stand-alone application.

Microsoft Access is all about simplicity, with ready-to-go templates to get you going and powerful tools that stay relevant as your data grows.

Access empowers you to make the most of your information—even if you’re not a database expert. And, through newly added Web databases, Access amplifies the power of your data, making it easier to track, report, and share with others. Your data will never be further away than your closest Web browser.

Getting started with apps

Using your SharePoint server or Office 365 site as a host, you’ll be able to build a polished, browser-based database app. Under the hood, Access apps use SQL Server to provide the best performance and data integrity. On the startup screen, click Custom web app.

Table templates

Quickly add tables to your app using pre-designed table templates. If you’re tracking tasks, search for the Tasks template and click it.

External data

Import data from Access desktop databases, Microsoft Excel files, ODBC data sources (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, IBM Lotus Notes, AS 400 DB2), text files, SharePoint lists, XML, Outlook, HTML, dBase, Paradox (discontinued in Access 2010), Lotus 1-2-3 (discontinued in Access 2010).

Common file extensions for Access databases are accdb and mdb (previous MS Access versions).

Note: You can click on any file extension link from the list below, to view its detailed information. The list of extensions used or otherwise associated with the application may not be complete, because many common file extensions on our website, such as jpg (pictures) or txt (text files), can be opened by a large number of applications, or are too general file format. However most, if not all directly associated file extensions should be listed with its appropriate program. Although its likely, that some file extensions may be missing from the list of associated file extensions with the application, yet they can be opened, be part of, or otherwise be associated with the program.
